A downloadable game for Windows and Android

IMPORTANT: for Meta Quest 3/3S. NOT for Quest 1 or 2. This is a mixed-reality game. Set up your room's space setup/scan first as this will require data on the real-world walls and furniture. Hand tracking is required too. Make sure you give it permissions for these things when asked. Do not try to play it without doing these things.

Build a fortress out of gingerbread to defend your magical gingerbread oven in mixed-reality. Use your real-world room layout and furniture for strategic advantage. Place gingerbread defenders to guard against the rodent army of the sugar plum fairy who seeks to capture and corrupt the magical oven.

Controls (hand tracking only)

ActionHand gesture
Place your oven (initially)
move your hand to the desired location and hold a thumbs up gesture with either hand
Grabpinch with your index finger and thumb
Apply Icing (to glue wall pieces together or decorate)
make a fist and stick your index finger out and the fingertip will turn into an icing gun. Rub it along where two pieces meet, or where a piece meets the environment to automatically ooze out icing.
Skip the remaining time when in the "Build defenses" phase
clap rapidly about 7 times

Tips:

  • For easy mode, put your magical gingerbread oven on a table or other tall furniture. For hard mode, put it on the floor in the center of the room.
  • You can grab the mice and throw them.
  • You can grab gingerbread defenders and use them as weapons or bait.
  • Going too near mouse holes will cause gingerbread to crumble.
  • When gluing together gingerbread, hold it steady in the desired location with one hand, and glue it down with icing from your other hand's index finger's icing gun.
  • Place archers on top of other real-world furniture near the mouse holes (but not too near) to pick mice off as they come out of their nests.

VR Jam 5: I made this game in about a week for VR Jam 5. The theme is Christmas. I thought of the Nutcracker Christmas Ballet and the scene where the gingerbread soldiers are fighting the mice at night. Also, I wanted to play around with Meta's Mixed Reality Utility Kit for Unity.

Install instructions

For Meta Quest 3 Native: First set up your spatial scene on your Meta Quest 3 or 3S. Open up Settings -> Environment Setup -> Space setup to specify where the walls and other objects in your room are located for mixed reality. Also, make sure hand tracking is enabled and in use.

Load the .apk file onto your Quest 3 using Sidequest. Start the game by going to Library, filtering for Unknown Source, and running Gingerbread Keep.

For Windows: Do the same spatial scene setup on your Quest 3. Make sure hand tracking is enabled. Run Meta Quest Link and connect to your computer. Run GingerbreadKeep.exe. On the PC screen, you won't see the passthrough stuff, but when you put the headset on, you see it in the headset.

Troubleshooting:
If there are no mouse holes after you place the oven, and your desks/surfaces are missing, then you probably have not set up your room yet, or have not given it permission. If you are seeing controllers instead of hands, then switch to hands (you can tap the controllers together twice to switch to hands if you have already set that up.

Now this is dope! Even as is its probably better than 90% of the trash in meta store :D I need to stop starting from scratch each time, such a nice progression you have here for the last few vr jam games!

Thanks!
