A Kingdom of Crumbs
A downloadable game
Defend the realm from the ravenous EATOR who seeks to devour your kingdom in this real-time castle-building strategy game made out of real 3D-scanned chocolate chip cookies.
There is no playable game yet. There is only a hastily made intro cutscene so far.
Created for A Highly Unproductive Game Jam: I made the game assets by forming chocolate cookie dough into the shapes of the characters, props, and environment assets, and 3D scanned them in with the KIRI app on my smartphone, then cleaned/animated them with Blender, and put everything together in Unity. The EATOR is made using a scan of my wife's mouth.
There were also plenty of bread assets, but they didn't make it into the game.
The biggest challenge in this project was to not eat the delicious freshly-baked cookie/pastry assets before they were scanned in. There were whole entire batches of cookies/breads baked for the jam that were eaten without scanning. For each piece, each iteration of 3D scan/processing takes about 30 minutes. I gained about 5 lbs of weight (2.2 kg) over the course of this project.
